JCI Eesti Programm

We proudly present you JCI Estonia 2009 National Conference program, which is dedicated to JCI 20 years in Estonia. Today’s economical situation involves both: threats and opportunities. But each of us makes the choice we want to believe – whether to be an optimist or pessimist. It’s time to look inside and around us – what is our attitude to the crisis and whether we see new opportunities. At this year’s conference, internationally well-known people will share their experiences, who with their ambitions and commitment have moved “Per Aspera Ad Astra”. With “JCI e-Koda touch”, we will also enjoy relax room (Lübeck) during the training sessions and proper evening programs – join us for the wildest parties in the galaxy!

10.15 – 11.15 Innovation in the Knowledge Economy: Using Intellectual Property to Build instead of Block

  • Bowman J Heiden, Innovation Director, Qatar Science and Technology Park (Qatar)

In the knowledge economy, all business is becoming global, unbound by physical boundaries. This creates a competitive pressure for entrepreneurs and managers to adopt an intellectual property rights (IPR) focus in order to control the development of their innovations and to profit financially. This ongoing global development can be described as an evolutionary path that is leading us into an intellectualized economy where the core of business is focused on intellectual assets, property, and capital. The role of universities, firms, governments, and the capitalistic system will all need to adapt. Whether this development will be constructive or destructive depends on us. What we know for sure it that innovation in the knowledge economy will alter the fate of corporations and redefine the wealth of nations.

11.15-11.45 2009 – Innovation Year in Estonia

  • Ilmar Pralla, Director of Innovation Division, Enterprise Estonia (Estonia)

2009 has been declared “Innovation Year” both in Estonia and all over Europe – a year for fresh perspectives, new solutions and bold ambitions. But 2009 is also a year of Global Financial Crisis and economic downturn. A year of lost jobs, vanished capital and bare survival. Now almost in last quarter of 2009 it’s time to have a first brief glimpse on Estonia in 2009 and start discussion whether we had an Innovation Year or Crisis Year.

Kagan (USA).

  • Mart Noorma, Institute of Physics, University of Tartu, Docent (Estonia)

EstCube-1 (www.estcube.eu) is a space project which mission can be defined in quite different ways. From the technological point of view, together with our partners from Finland and Germany we take the first step towards the fastest space craft ever built. From the physical point of view, we test a novel propulsion technology based on the plasma interaction with a microscopic tether never tested in space before. Educationally it is a significant training of independent thinking. But the most important impact of the satellite project could be sending a set of positive messages to our youth motivating them to reach for the stars.

The presentation brings to the audience an insight to the educational, technological, financial, and political challenges EstCube-1 team faces and the strategies to deal with them. The latest model of the satellite will be demonstrated first time in public.
