Timo Vuori- Corporate Responsibility after Financial Crisis
The Financial crisis is not the end of globalization. International business between various partners including SMEs will still continue to grow after this recession. In order to manage new kinds of risks in international trade, visionary companies have already set their internal values and provide clear business principles for their behavior beyond companies´ legal obligation. This helps companies to run their business in a less risky way in countries where local regulation do necessarily support financially, but also socially or ecologically responsible business behavior or zero tolerance in corruption.
Increasing number of companies are using well-known and widely respected external business principles and guidelines like UN Global Compact in order to shape up their every day responsible business behavior. Even increasing number of institutional investors are asking companies about their risk management in CSR and tools for that. In Nordic countries there are already over 260 companies which have committed themselves to apply Global Compact as a part of their business. See Global Compact: www.unglobalcompact.org and Nordic Network: www.gcnordic.net
Mr. Timo Vuori is the Focal Point and Coordinator of the Global Compact Nordic Network in which over 200 Nordic companies co-operate and learn from each other about CSR issues. Mr. Vuori is also the Secretary General of International Chamber of Commerce ICC Finnish National Committee. For many years he has worked with the Finnish major companies like Nokia, Kesko, Kone, Metso, Nordea, Valio, Wärtsilä in international trade and investment issues and corporate responsibility challenges. He is representing business in the Finnish Government´s Committee on Corporate Responsibility and is also member of the CSR Committee of the Confederation of Finnish Industries EK.
